The examination likewise looks at difficulties and roads for consistent improvement. These between associated goals shape three research addresses that are tended to dependent on client reactions to an organized instrument. This instrument has its roots implanted in the abundance of advancements in methodological viewpoints to do with administration quality appraisal. The ‘perception-desire hole and the hole as for ‘service conveyance are investigated over a large number of research contemplates that are pegged around the focal reasonable component of SERVQUAL. This idea is talked about in detail remembering cases of its utilization for looking at the carrier business. An organized close finished survey educates this examination that utilizes information created from 250 respondents. The examination is constrained in methodological thoroughness because of u tilization of spellbinding measurements alone and yet gives a rich story utilizing the information that is regularly impractical except if results are emphatically slanted for the situation on inferential insights. The absence of power has emerged because of information holes which the examination recognizes. Discoveries propose that staff preparing on understanding the extent of administration quality, and proceeding with modernization and foundation update ought to be on the motivation at Emirates. The outcomes likewise show that customized consideration gave to clients is a key selling point in why clients pick Emirates, however that there is absence of understanding identified with appropriate client relations the executives. Some clashing outcomes additionally will in general recommend that the polarity between client desires and discernments is impacted by the relative contributions contender carriers make. There is likewise an insight that momentary asset driving forces like long standing customer plans don't do a lot to improve administration quality discernments. It is the drawn out implanted improvement of staff abilities and comprehension about the all encompassing nature of administration quality that may end up being ‘the competency for continued upper hand. The investi gation sets a requirement for additional exploration in creating tantamount assistance quality measurements across worldwide carriers that are accessible just in the US at present (AQR), and furthermore a requirement for relative contextual analyses in the business to advise globalization expectations. Part 1: Introduction 1.1. Foundation Emirates aircrafts is one of the biggest and presumably the most reliably productive carriers of ongoing occasions. Since its initiation in 1985 it has developed cosmically and over the most recent few years it has set out upon an armada update and extension that diminutive people other significant aircrafts. It cruised through the 9/11 related downturn in aeronautics business, and the unsettling influence in the inlet to turn into an aircrafts whose achievement equation confuses the executives insight. Spur of the moment answers for issues and issues as they emerge appears to have worked exceedingly well for the carrier. The aircraft professes to have an open culture and an open motivation where the need of security doesn't subsume the need to convey from singular skills under what can be named a ‘fluid methodology process (Sull et al, 2006). The attention on fine issues and full scale perspectives the same are shared over all administration levels involving a multi-social wor kforce like no other aircraft. The organization is accustomed to making jumps whether it is by utilizing the acknowledgment from aircraft of the year grant in 1994 to build up itself among the mammoths, to the gigantic armada extension in 2004-2005-to turn into the jealousy of even the monsters. Enduring the 9/11 sorrow plainly focuses to the benefits in Emirates approach. The key issue appears in working as a family, where when different carriers were scaling back and cutting staff, Emirates kept business as usual on these fronts and conveyed a sentiment of having a place in its staff. This was the significant switch that propped Emirates up and in certainty even flourish in times that were so going after for the business. As Carlzon (1989) notes in his toward the back refered to work ‘Moments of Truth this is smoothing of structure in the genuine sense with the goal that messages get across rapidly and adequately makes for a â€Å"powerful association that serves clients better and releases the vitality i n employees†. Be that as it may, assembling both these to adjust the market direction through assistance quality is a test particularly in the midst of development and high force in outer variables influencing the business. Different convictions at Emirates like around the flourishing of Dubai that it keeps as the operational hub of its system, and keeping a somewhat preservationist standpoint towards alliancing with different aircrafts are not customary. These shape an adaptable center around which other attitudinal and social parts of the plan of action develop. This rise has regularly been punctuated with forced or pondered change this investigation happens during a period of thought change that of fast development of Emirates aircrafts over the globe (Leckic, 2007). The transparency additionally rises above into the convictions the carrier has. The aircraft currently tries to develop all the more forcefully and decrease unmistakable fixating on Dubai. Making a worldwide brand dependent on current achievement is on the plan. The aircraft understands that notorieties in an assistance industry are utilized around administration quality. In this light as it loosens up to steering over the globe and recruiting more staff and securing physical foundation, that administration quality doesn't get bargained stays a worry near heart (Sull et al, 2006; Byles, 2007, Leckic, 2007; Sending 2008). 1.2. Inspiration The worldwide carrier industry has seen a battle to convey gainfulness nearby ‘truly fulfilling the flying open (Van Pham and Simpson, 2000). The alliancing courses of action, course mapping and offering bundled benefits through such coalitions have attempted to influence industry gauges of administration quality-which may not be the genuine impression of client desires. The view of clients about what is integral to support quality vis-à -vis the situation in pivotal for illuminating help quality activities and the market direction of a firm. Obviously given the dynamic idea of contributions that exist across ventures including the carrier business, such desire observation adjusts are consistently moving, and are much increasingly quick moving for an aircraft that is developing quickly and experiencing new clients around the world. The test additionally in this way reaches out to one of constant improvement (Emirates, 2005-2007). Given the achievement of Emirates and its extraordinary development and plans for development, plainly client observations will be integral to choosing execution later on. In the midst of development and extension to new courses the likelihood of variety in administration quality levels and variety in client desires is probably going to be higher. How the aircraft can ingest such input to adjust and tweak its vital showcasing in the worldwide condition is fascinating for chiefs, scholastics, and the more extensive industry - all having been stunned at the Emirates story up until this point. This investigation analyzes client observations about assistance quality and relates it with showcase direction to contemplate over the path forward for Emirates, obviously something key to research and professional premiums in Emirates. The suggestions may likewise have some something to think about for the carrier itself as it looks for persistent upgrades for a story that is as of now a smash h it. From a methodological point of view the utilization of administration quality appraisal approaches like the SERVQUAL and its interface with the market direction of the organization has been an inspiration (Webb, 2000; Engelland, 1998; Devlin et al; 2002; Van Pham and Simpson, 2006). That these have educated the aircraft business among others on administration quality, client and market direction among others make this examination established on vigorous hypothetical and methodological grounds. 1.3. Research Questions This exposition looks to analyze administration quality at emirates, and inspect the path forward as the aircraft tries to showcase its picture in the midst of quick speculation and development. The primary expands upon the second as it is administration quality recognitions as client sees that should be the center when forming promoting procedures. This is specifically for a plan of action that is well resourced as on account of Emirates and the fundamental concern is by all accounts of observing and improving client take-up of administration quality as the carrier develops. This is to be contextualized with the market direction of the organization so far for molding key activities that can expand the arrangement between client view of administration with their desires for the equivalent. In this manner three focal inquiries that illuminate this paper are: What components influence administration quality discernments about Emirates aircrafts? What variables are seen to be focal in illuminating ceaseless help quality improvement activities? How do these recognitions partner with the market direction of the aircraft from past activities? 1.4. Thesis Outline The thesis begins with a prologue to the unique situation, degree and potential commitments from this investigation as here. The following part analyzes the writing in detail looking at the idea of value before driving on to support quality and research to create methodological and reasonable ideal models around it. Market direction as a supplement and related perspective is likewise stayed upon before shutting the writing survey that additionally utilizes investigate proof across ventures including the carrier business. The speculations advancement section connects the exploration inquiries to the scenery of administration

Difference Between Goals Free Essays

Goals are often the main fundamental end point towards which organizations work. Goals define the aims and objectives of organizations that are set to be achieved in the due course of time. The different types of goals in an organization are for different purposes and reasons. We will write a custom essay sample on Difference Between Goals or any similar topic only for you Order Now Fundamentally there exist two categories of goals: official goals and operative goals. (Daft, 2001) The difference between these goals is quite obvious and can be explained easily. Official goals exist to define the organization’s overall legitimate objectives i. e. the stage it will reach during the course of its existence. Operative goals, on the other hand are in place to provide the momentum and motivation to employees in a particular direction. These seek to establish decision guidelines and are basically the means to achieve the fundamental objectives. In other words, operative goals define the goals of performance and employee productivity in order to meet the official goals.  (Daft, 2001) There should be a high degree of consistency and congruency between the official and the operative goals for the organization to benefit from it. At Google, the official goals are defined to being able to provide the world with all the information in and about the world in as many different languages as possible. Clearly speaking, it is a very broad, timeless and fundamental goals which Google is aiming at. There will hardly be any point in time when Google can claim that it has met its official goals. The operative goals of Google include the harbouring of individualism as well as collective group work: a goal that will motivate both strata of workers because it has been found out that many superb individuals may not gel into groups well and many average performers may perform exceptionally in groups. It also has provision for creativity and innovation. The operative goals of Google are clearly different and more specific towards performance and operations, while the official goals depict what the operative goals will one day lead to. (Google search engine) Thus, it should be borne in mind when considering the difference between operational and operative goals that these are highly related to each other and yet distinct. The example of Google as an organization highlighting the differences between these two types of goals exmplifies this fact aptly. How to cite Difference Between Goals, Papers

In some of the countries like India, where there is demand for the product but the direct distribution channel is very weak. One of the major weaknesses of the company is that the smart phones of Apple are incompatible to other operating systems (Xingang, Jiaoli Bei, 2013). Opportunities The Internet of things market has a scope to grow in the future, health related wearable gadgets might be introduced to the market that will definitely attract the segment of the market that Apple targets. The expanding mobile payment market will help the customers in online transaction of the phones (Apple, 2017). Threats Strong competition from Microsoft, IBM, Samsung, Dell poses a threat to the company. The revenues of Apple is going is expected to decrease in other countries because has been estimated that the currency value of US dollar might get stronger. Lawsuits due to the patentent infringements bring bad reputation for the company (Apple, 2017). Competitors Analysis of Company Despite all the innovations and leadership status of Apple, somehow the company failed to stop the new entrants to enter the market and limit the substitute products, which are offered by companies like, Samsung, Dell and Sony at cheaper prices. The company faces a lot of competition from Samsung, Google, Microsoft and Dell because these companies have proved that the product specifications and the features of Apple can be imitated, these companies sell the same features in a comparatively lower price. In many countries Samsung is being sued for copying the iPad, moreover the company also have potential threat from other companies that are entering the industry or might enter the industry in the futures and offer innovative products, smart phones, tablets, computers and other smart gadgets. Microsoft shows modest growth in term of revenue, Google also shows steady growth, it is very difficult to say which of the companies posing more threat, Google, Microsoft Amazon or Samsung. All t he companies are coming up with features that are either same or better at a cheaper price and hence those competitors target that segment of society that Apple fails to target because of its high prices (Akana et al., 2014). PESTEL Analysis Political The company pays higher corporate taxation because Apple has accumulated large amount of cash. The Company is very much dependent on low cost manufacturing in china. The company has chances to become a target of Nationalism and anti-Americanism movements in China. The close relations of Apple Inc with China can become a political issue in countries like Japan (Mudambi Puck, 2016). Economic The stagnant middle-class incomes in many developed countries impacts the growth of sales of the company. Stronger US dollar will increase the exchange rates of the Company, which will make it very difficult for Apple to do business in Europe and China. The increase cost of labor in China might take away the cost advantage of some of the Apples products (Rothaermel, 2015). Social There will be significant growth in the consumer expenditure in the regions of world, like Africa where the brand awareness of the company is very low. Consumers of the saturated markets, like America do not have strong attachment to the products of Apple that increase sales. The Ethical considerations about the manufacturing of Apple in countries like china might decrease the value of the product for ethically conscious customers. The music marketing strategy of Apple has disappointed people which led to public criticism resulting in tarnishing of brand image (Hollensen, 2015). Technological Google and Microsoft, which specializes in manufacturing of Laptops and personal computers, have showed that they have ability to duplicate the products of Apple. Google within a span of one year rolled out a Payment app, Android Pay that has the same capabilities. The growth in the usage of Smart Phones and tablets will decrease the demand for the Personal Computer of Apple. The operating system of Apple limits a number of applications, the consumer products like, Apple TV has a limited market (Grant, 2016). Legal Through Apple Pay, the company has recently entered highly regulated financial services sector, this will increase the level of regulation, Government and legal obligations. Apple is dependent of products that are covered by Intellectual property laws, this make the company vulnerable to piracy and litigation (Kim et al., 2015). Environmental The major environmental issue faced by Apple is regarding the disposal of used and non working gadgets. These devices contain a lithium battery that is hazardous to the environment and is very expensive for disposal. Pollution and environmental concerns in china affects the manufacturing facilities in China, which will make the regulations strict (Cornelissen Cornelissen, 2017). Five years business environment projections of Apple Inc Over the next five years, the market analysts estimate that the earning of the company might grow on an average rate of 7.85% per year. In the fifth year, the cost of the shares would be $12 per share. Over the past five years the P/E ratio of the company has increased from 10 to 18 by the end of 2021, it has been estimated that Apple stock will worth $170. Based on the assumption that there will be 8% growth in the next five years it has been estimated that the earnings per share will be $18 by the end of 2026, based on this P/E ratio the price of Apple will be $250. Long-term forecasts would be very inaccurate because of disruptive developments. If there is an arrival of new software and hardwares then there is a chance for sales growth.. (Washington post, 2017). According to Washington posts, there are speculations that Apple is working on Project Titan, and Apple has invested $1 billion in the Chinese ride-hailing service Didi Chuxing in May, and as per Wall Street journal that self-driving Car project is on its way (Washington Post, 2017). Strategic Adaptations Product Development Product development is the main strategy of Apple, for product development the company offers attractive products to increase market share and market performance, the company implements intensive growth strategy through innovation in its Research and development. Apple believes Innovation is most important factor for success, therefore it focuses in innovation in Product development (Cornelisse Cornelissen, 2017). Market Skimming Apple uses Market skimming as its most important strategy, through its skimming strategy by targeting a particular segment of the society, the segment that is not price sensitive, is wealthy and buying behavior of such customers is highly motivated by the social status (Bull et al., 2016). Market Penetration Apple also uses market penetration strategy for intensive growth, applies applies penetration strategies by selling more iPhones and iPads to its current market target, in its current market Apple gains more sales by adding more authorized sellers, this strategy has helped the company to gain the position it today holds. Advertisements encourage more people to choose Apple. The various websites and media outlets do the promotions of the products of the company (Chow, 2015). Market Development Apple applies the Marketing development strategies mostly in the developing markets, the company innovates and offers new products like Apple watch, this way company develops itself in the smart watch market. This strategy agrees with the Apples generic strategy of differentiation (Area, Gonzalez Mora, 2015). Conclusion The internal capabilities and the generic strategies of the company helps it be gain competitive advantage over other companies in the market. However, Apple faces many competitions and challenges while reaching out to its customers. The strong distribution channel within America helps the company to build a huge customer base, its national markets mostly contributes to the sales. The companys most of the manufacturing is done in China, where company faces ethical and social threats. Apple is one of the most valuable companies in the world, the good will and strong global positions that the company has gained is because of the focus on excellence and product design. The company needs few improvements to beat the competition that can be done by company by manufacturing cheaper phones, so that the company can target that segment of the society as well that it cannot target because of its high prices. The company cans start manufacturing facilities in other countries as well so that it becomes easier for the company to carry out it operations in case it faces some difficulties in countries like China. The company needs to be technologically more advanced so that competitors do not imitate its products. References Akana, J., Andre, B. K., Batailou, J., Coster, D. J., De Iuliis, D., Hankey, M. The Story Of English Essay Research Paper free essay sample

The Story Of English Essay, Research Paper The Story of English Many people may inquire, # 8221 ; What is the Bayeux Tapestry? # 8221 ; In the undermentioned paragraphs, the significance of the Bayeux Tapestry will be recognized. First of all it should be understood that it is non a Tapestry in the full sense of the word. It is an embellishment. It was constucted from eight separate pieces of linen which were joined to do up it s length. It is about 70 metres long and a half a metre broad. It is apparent that at one phase it ws longer, likely by every bit much as seven or eight metres are losing. This is a calamity as it may hold answered many of the inquiries that gives cause for argument today. It is by and large agreed that Bishop Odo was the designer who commisioned the Bayeux Tapestry. It was designed and constructed moderately shortly after the conflict in 1066. We will write a custom essay sample on The Story Of English Essay Research Paper or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page It was made without any shadow of a uncertainty to observe and record for descendants the events taking up to conflict and its wake. If it is moderately confident that Bishop Odo commissioned the Tapestry, argument still reigns as where to it was constructed, and by whom. It fundamentally comes down to the commitments. If one is Gallic, they would wish to believe that it was made in France. There are so many hints in its building that indicate otherwise. Whereas it is known as the Bayeux Tapestry in England, it is sometimes referred to in France as the Tapisserie de la reine Mathilde or Queen Matilda s Tapestry. Matilda, one will retrieve, was William s married woman. To deduce that she and she entirely constructed this work of art defies all credibleness. As Queen of England and Duchess of Normandy, she would neer hold had the clip. Another factor which excludes her from the equation is that she does non look in it herself ( although she may hold been in the missing subdivision ) . So if you discount the building being undertaken in France, where was it made? Over the old ages, the Tapestry has been studied by experts in this field and the consensus of sentiment is that it was of English building. Certain historical facts of the clip and characteristics of the Tapestry indicate where it was made. Following the conflict in 1066, Bishop Odo was made Earl of Kent. This was partially because he was William s half brother and secondly because William was responsibility edge to refund the trueness of his Lords. Another inquiry comes to mind, who designed it? This is a more hard inquiry to reply. If one stands back and expression at the Tapestry as a whole, they can comprehend a certain flow which indicates an artistic feeling in so much as the design was by one individual. Be this individual male or female? Certain scenes in the Tapestry are graphic and bloody during the conflict. It seems impossible that a adult female would be able to comprehend some of the seems depicted without being at the conflict. It seems to unreal that a adult female would be able to comprehend some of the seems depicted without really at the conflict. It ws most likely designed by a adult male, who was Gallic, and who perchance was involved in or was an eyewitness to the conflict. The Tapestry that exists today covers the reaching of Harold in Normandy and concludes with his decease and licking of the English. Some of the scenes depicted are private, such as the decease of Edward the Confesssor and Harold curse over holy relics. This information had to be gathered and placed in chronological order. No 1 adult male could hold been involved in this exercising. As stated earlier, the Tapestr Y was constructed out of eight strips of linen. Whether each subdivision was made seperately or run up together first is unknown. The designs were perchance lightly drawn on the linen and the embriodery topographic points on top. Like so many artefacts, the Bayeux Tapestry survived through fortune and through certain persons and groups. Following its building in the decennary following the conflict, the exact day of the month or clip it took to build is non known, it was transported to Bayeux. Here it is assumed, it was put on show in the church of Notre Dame, which was consecrated by Bishop Odo in 1077. The Tapestry remained within the Cathedral walls for the following 400 old ages. Small is known or involvement shown for another 300 old ages. However, involvement began to mount around 1750 in England where it was referred to in a work entitled the Palaeographia Britainnicus. No effort was made to look into it farther by the English. In 1792, the seeds of the civil war has been sown. The Tapestry was in danger when the Gallic revolution begun. It was at this clip that the really existance of this masterpeice held in the balance. But for the actions of one adult male, a Lambert Leonard Leforestier, it would h old been lost. The people of Bayeux now contending for the Republic used cloth to cover their waggons. There was a deficit of fabric until person remembered a supply if it in the Cathedral. It was removed and used to cover a waggon, When Lambert saw what was happenning, he replaced the Tapestry with the other fabric. The people of Bayeux, determined neer to let this to go on once more, the metropolis council set up all right humanistic disciplines council to protect its hoarded wealths. It was merely every bit good that they did because two old ages subsequently in 1794, it was once more to be cut up and used as ornament for a public vacation. In 1803 it was removed under protest by Napoleon and transpoted to Paris. Napoleon used the Tapestry as insinspiration for his planned onslaught on his natural enemy Engalnd. When this was aborted, it was returned to the people of Bayeux. Frightened of losing the Tapestry, the council kept the Tapestry on a coil. This tended to stretch the embellishment but at lest it was safe. In 1818, the being of the Tapestry was doing great involvement in England. To this terminal, an English draftsman was sent to Bayeux to inspect and catalogue it. By inspecting every pin hole, he devised a plan of Restoration. In 1842, fixs were affected in Bayeux. The Tapestry was once more removed in 1870 during the Franco Prussian was but returned to its glorification 2 old ages subsequently. Here it remained on show until 1913 prior to the eruption of World War 1 ehere it was once more removed and stored in a safe topographic point. The same action occured during the secon Worl War, it was removed for safe maintaining and out of the custodies of Nazi Germany who intended to roll up art from conquered states. On the 6th of June 1944, a rearward invasion took topographic point. This was known as D. Day. To avoid the Tapestry from being damaged during the struggle, it was in secret moved to the Louvre in Paris where it was stored in their vaults. Following the resignation of Germany, the Tapestry was displayed once more in Paris in all its glorification. The undermentioned twelvemonth it was returned to Bayeux under legal power of the municiple library. Today it is on show in Bayeux and can be viewed by the general populace. The Tapestry was designed and constructed moderately shortly after the conflict in 1066. It was made without any shadow of a uncertainty to observe and record for descendants the events taking up to conflict and its wake.

Massacre at Mystic Essays

Massacre at Mystic Essays Massacre at Mystic Paper Massacre at Mystic Paper Day 1: Massacre at Mystic The first day took place on May 26th, 1637 in a Pequot village at Missituck (located near the Mystic River in Connecticut). What happened was the English and Indian allies had attacked the Pequot village. Within that group, there were 70 English, 70 Mohegans, and 500 Narragansetts. The Mohegans and the Narragan were the allies of the English. The English were Puritans from the Massachusetts Bay Colony, led by Major John Mason and Captain John Underhill. The massacre was the first time the English had been involved in the killings of Native Americans. The purpose of the Puritans migrating to America was to start a new life and for religious freedom from England. The Pequot village was the wealthiest, largest, and powerful tribe of Connecticut. The Pequots were also dominant in military and political force. Part of the Massacre at Mystic started when two â€Å"Block Islanders,† who were thought to be Pequot but were really a subtribe of the Narragansett, pretended to seek trade with John Oldham. Once they were aboard his ship, they killed him and stole all of his goods. Along with the murder of Oldham, the murder of John Underhill also led to John Endicott seeking revenge on the Pequots. The Puritans officially declared when the Pequot started killing colonists, capturing women, slaughtering livestock, and burning storehouses from the English Population. The battle lasted less than an hour. The English captured whoever they could find and beheaded them and tortured them, among with other things. One 160 men went looking for Sassacus, who was traveling with 400 followers. Once they finally found him, the English tried to negotiate the release of 200 women and children, but he slipped away. He later had his head cut off from trying to get help from the Mohawk, who were Sassacus’ old enemies, and they sent it to the English as a token of friendship. The war officially ended in September 1638 when tribal leaders that were left signed the Treaty of Hartford. This treaty revoked legal recognition of the Pequot nation.

Thermoplastic Copolyester nancomposites for biomedical applications Research Proposal

Thermoplastic Copolyester nancomposites for biomedical applications - Research Proposal Example Nanocomposites comprise a broad class of new materials that can combine the properties of bulk phase materials with nano-dimensional phase materials. The application of these materials to biomedical devices is a subject of intense research, providing an opportunity for researchers to develop and exploit the properties of new materials to achieve markedly different catalytic, mechanical, thermal, electrochemical, optical, and electrical properties from the component materials that may be useful in the development of contemporary medical devices and drug delivery systems. Copolyester thermoplastic elastomers combine the chemical and material properties of chemically crosslinked elastomers with engineered plastics, which are often much easier and affordable to manufacture. These materials consist of multiple domains, instead of the single domain found in polyesters, and are commonly referred to as â€Å"hard† and â€Å"soft† blocks (Cella, 1973, p.727). ... These materials combine the strength and processing characteristics available to engineered plastics with the performance abilities of thermoset elastomers, with the additional benefit of attaining optimal properties without vulcanization, a factor that can significantly reduce part cost (DSM 2011, p.2). Copolyesters, like polyesters, are polymers assembled from diacids and diols whose type may be varied in order to achieve certain material properties. Copolyesters, however, contain multiple distinct monomers (Jaarsma 2004, p.1). These materials have both excellent mechanical properties that duplicate rubber and leather at a fraction of the cost, making the materials commercially interesting for a broad variety of applications (Dupont 2011, p.2-3). Relative to other available elastomers, copolymer elastomer materials offer the most consistent performance over a range of temperatures, with little variation in properties at either extremely high or low temperatures (DSM 2011, p.2). Thi s is a property particularly useful in the sterilization of medical devices, which often involves extreme temperature ranges. In order to be useful for biomedical applications, the most important material property is to withstand repeat sterilization processes that may involve gamma irradiation, high temperatures, electron beams, and ethylene oxide (EtO) treatments. In addition, a material must show excellent chemical resistance, toughness, clarity, and color stability in order to be effectively applied to biomedical applications (Jaarsma 2004, p.1). Achieving an effective biomedical nanocomposite material that fits these stringent criteria

Breakup of the Soviet Union Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Breakup of the Soviet Union - Essay Example There were many reasons for the disintegration of USSR. Economic collapse: The cold war between the America and USSR had created a virtual battleground for the two countries in which both tried to get an advantage over the other. It initiated the race for arms and both countries tried to acquire and produce better weapons to keep the other country in line. For the USSR, the arms race created a lot of problems. A high amount of the budget was spent on the military while the industry and other sectors received only a very small share. Such a large yearly output being devoted only for the cause of military resulted in the decline of the country’s economy which finally went into stagnation. The two countries also engaged in a ‘space race’ releasing shuttles and satellites into the space to improve their technological standings. This also caused the USSR a lot of money and caused resentment among the general public as the amount was not being used to satisfy their basi c needs. A major blow to the USSR economy was also made by the change in Saudi Arabia’s oil policies.... Also the regions within the USSR like Tajikistan that had ethnic links with the Afghans did not favor the war and hence an internal unrest was born inside the USSR (The Collapse of the Soviet Union). Gorbachev's reforms: The stagnation of the country and the obsolete political system of the country forced Gorbachev to introduce new reforms that could revitalize the economy and stabilize the existing political conditions. He introduced two famous reforms namely 'glasnost' and 'perestroika' which called for freedom of speech and political reconstruction respectively. The reforms however backfired and lead to the collapse of USSR. The transparency and the freedom of speech allowed the media to talk about corruption, alcoholism, political scandals and other issues that defamed the government. As the events like Chernobyl disaster and the Afghan war began to be showed in a negative light by the media the distrust of the general public on the Soviet government gradually increased. The stor ies of political killings and massacres in individual states like Armenia instilled the spirit of freedom and peaceful protests like The Baltic way began to be held in the entire country (Spielvogel). The democratization brought in as a result of perestroika provided more authority to the public and they openly spoke against the government. Gorbachev's reforms might have been for the good of the country but it produced radical unforeseen effects and the timing was certainly not right as his reforms ultimately resulted in the disintegration of USSR. US policies: While the above three factors played the most important role in the disintegration, the role of US cannot be denied. Ronald Regan, the president of US of that time made use of the deteriorating conditions of the USSR

Snow White And The Huntsman Film Studies Essay

Snow White And The Huntsman Film Studies Essay In the epic action-adventure starts out with (Kristen Stewart) who plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen, her name, snow white. While the film offers an appropriately exciting take on the fairy tale that inspired it, Snow White and the Huntsman is slow at the beginning of the movie with a confused script that jumps around a bit. Thirty minutes into the film it starts to pick up with its first action war scene against the Dark Army, an assaulting force of glass fighters. The film offers wonderful digital effects during this scheme with the soldiers shattering when struck by swords. Ravenna (the evil queen) seizes control of the entire kingdom, locks snow white up and years pass. More drama begins to unfold as age starts to affect the Queen. In order to sustain and preserve her beauty, the Queen must draw out the essence of youth from young women. The Queen also consults with a digitally animated Magic Mirror, that very interesting to watch. As the story begins to pick up, the Mirrors informes the Queen that Snow White is predestined to destroy her unless she devours the young girls heart. At this point the huntsman is introduced; his name is Eric, a widower who has lived in the Dark Forest, is taken to Queen. She orders him to lead her brother, Finn to search for Snow White. In exchange, she assures him that she can revive his deceased wife, Sarah. The next few action scenes have high intensity with a lot of digital affects within the scary forest full of nightmares to an enormous, drooling, angry goblin thats out to eat anyone that enters his valley. The visual effects continue as they travel through the fairy sanctuary where the fairies and animals alike dwell in harmony. The guides for Snow white and the huntsman are hefty, stocky dwarves who were snow whites loyal friends. The actors who played these dwarfs caught me off guard while watching the film. It seems the movie producer passed over little people for the roles of the seven dwarfs.   Full-sized British actors such as  Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins and Ray Winstone played the roles and were shrunk using digital manipulation and had their faces digitally transmuted onto small the bodies. This took away from the realization of the seven dwarfs if you recognize any of the actors playing the seven dwarfs. I would like to have seen more of the seven dwarfs and I feel they w ere slightly under used. The location of the movie took place in the beautiful United Kingdom. Some of the beach scenes were filmed near the village of Marloes which gives the movie a darker feel. The classic Snow White fairytale was set in Germany and the movie showed these German features throughout the movie. The shape of the castle, the design of the village cottages, and the dark forest which represented Germanys Black Forest brought the classic story to life. The music that was created for the movie was outstanding. It really lifted the film and stood out over the chaos of the battle scenes. The background voice that was used created tension in all the right places, and moved me to the point that I wanted to cry during the dwarfs duet.  The costumes made for the Queen were spectacular. The dresses represented power and elegance with a touch of armor for battle as the story unfolded. I would have no problem seeing it again even though I know the ending. All in all this movie was money well spent. I would whole heartedly recommend this film. It has really given the kiss of life to the fairy tale classic, breathing new air into a new way of storytelling. The acting was well done except for Kristen Stewart playing snow-white. I would have no problem seeing watching this movie again or buying it on DVD.

Compare and contrast at least three of Fanthorpe’s poems Essay

Four of Fanthorpe’s poems, Dear Mr. Lee, You’ll Be Hearing From Us Shortly, Half Past Two and Not My Best Side all have things in common yet on different subjects. In her poems, Fanthorpe challenges our views particularly on stereotypes and prejudices both traditional and modern. The serious point of Dear Mr. Lee is to get across that looking at writing, so intensely can ruin the original idea the writer had. Some pieces of writing should just be read and enjoyed. Fanthorpe as a teacher often has to take apart pieces of work and analyse them yet she seems in this poem to disagree with the over analysing of writing. Also similar in all four of these poems is the structure. All are written as prose, the most obvious prose like poem is Dear Mr. Lee. It seems to be written as a letter by a student who has read Mr. Lee’s book. Yet looking further into the poem the reader discovers that it is actually written as the thoughts of the student. The way the student talks about and criticises the teacher. â€Å"Mr. Smart is my least favourite person† and â€Å"Mr. Smart has to explain why they’re jokes†¦Ã¢â‚¬ are good examples of thoughts. Dear Mr. Lee’s lines end randomly, which is odd for a poem, rhythm and pattern are not present and generally the poem has no traditional poetry techniques such as alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhyme. Also not all the lines begin with capital letters, which is very strange for a poem. â€Å"I wanted to say Dear Laurie (sorry) your book’s the one that made up for the other,†¦Ã¢â‚¬ The poem seems to be unplanned and has no apparent structure, using random line lengths, and also it seems to be this way because of the line beginning without capitals, which makes it, look messy and unplanned. Dear Mr. Lee is trying to get across a point that criticises the studying of writing whereas Not My Best Side challenges the use of stereotypes both traditional and modern. St George is a critic reading the poem making his objections to it, complaining about the way the new characters differ from the traditional or stereotypes. â€Å"Don’t you want to carry out the roles that sociology and myth have designed for you?† Not My Best Side is more tongue and cheek than Dear Mr. Lee in the way it makes fun of the stereotypes. In many stories involving dragons, the dragon is often fierce and often the bad guy. Fanthorpe has made fun of this and made the dragon totally the opposite: vain, proud, patronising and feels he is superior. He is a prima donna. The woman is not beautiful, helpless and grateful to the hero. She is self-centred, and a gold-digger. Then there is St. George who is supposed to be brave, handsome and modest. Fanthorpe’s St. George is a modern day man with a huge ego. Not My Best Side also appears to be written as prose. Also it lacks traditional poetry techniques, as does Dear Mr. Lee. The lines seem to end randomly, and yet again there is also the use of brackets as afterthoughts, which are found, for the same reason in Dear Mr. Lee. Unlike Not My Best Side, Half Past Two may be written from a personal experience. From her experiences Fanthorpe tries to get across that there are different kinds of time. Fanthorpe uses the child to represent the first kind of time: Events that the child remembers or has picked up. The child does not know ‘adult’ time and so uses events in the day as time. For example: â€Å"Gettinguptime†, and â€Å"Timeyouwereofftime†. The second time portrayed is real time. This type of time is the day divided up by the clock in hours and minutes. The third of time is suspended time. This is the type of time the child is in when he ‘daydreams’ and drifts off into his own world. As he doesn’t understand the adult time he goes into his own suspended time to escape. In Not My Best Side, Fanthorpe introduces three voices that divide the poem and show the reader who is speaking. This also appears in Half Past Two. There is the narrator, the teacher and the child. These three voices appear randomly within the stanzas whereas the three voices in Not My Best Side are used to divide the poem into stanzas. Like Dear Mr. Lee and Not My Best Side, Half Past Two is also written as prose. The randomly ending lines and use of brackets, also used in both Dear Mr. Lee and Not My Best Side emphasise the writing as prose. The brackets in Half Past Two represent afterthoughts, similar to Dear Mr. Lee and Not My Best Side. All of Fanthorpe’s poems seem to involve thoughts of someone, concerned about all that occurs in their own head. Maybe this person is Fanthorpe herself. Therefore the poems would be written about self-experiences. For example, the views of the Dragon, Princess, Knight, the suspended time of the child and the thoughts of the interviewee could all be taken as Fanthorpe’s own thoughts. Fanthorpe’s poems are idiosyncratic, all have a lose structure, the line endings are odd and stanza lengths are also all different. Her poetry is written mainly as prose and is easy to tell why, the use of brackets mid line to represent after thoughts and different length structure makes the poems look like prose writing. This is typical of Fanthorpe’s writing and hence her poems being similar in all ways.

Anna Hazare’s Movement Against Corruption

A new landmark in the history of independent India, a new path paved by the veteran anti- corruption campaigner Anna Hazare. His struggle against corruption was a gentle reminder of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha. His fast-unto death, the five day fast has shown the world what Gandhism means in today’s world. The power of Gandhiji’s non violence will never cease to exist in the ages to come. While in Libya and Yemen there is bloodshed for freedom, where people are waging war against one another during the crisis, here in India, a respected social activist Anna Hazare is waging a peaceful, non violent war against corruption. His urge to free India of the greatest evil, corruption, commends appreciation. This fight against corruption staged at Jantar Mantar was not a one- man show. People from different parts of the country gave their support to Anna Hazare. The greatest merit of this non violent struggle was that no political party was involved in it. Anna Hazare and his supporters were not influenced by any political party. There was only one flag waving high in the sky and in our minds, the Indian National Flag. The fast ended on a very positive note when the idea of Jan Lokpal Bill was accepted by the Government of India. According to the Jan Lokpal Bill, there will be a separate body to investigate and curb the ugly face of India†¦. CORRUPTION; where people have the right to raise their voice against corrupt politicians. Moreover the CBI will be seen as an independent body, free of any other external influence. Now that the bill is going to be sanctioned, a very important question arises†¦. Can all the Indians touch their heart and say with confidence that the Jan Lokpal Bill will eradicate corruption Maybe to an extent but I don’t think it will erase corruption completely in a vast country like India. The Jan Lokpal Bill may have loopholes like the Right to Information Act, an Act passed due to the thrust laid by Anna Hazare. According to the right to information act, the citizens of India have the right to get information on any matter concerning the country, but recently an incident occurred which clearly reflects the loopholes in it. A citizen of India lodged a complaint about the illegal wealth possessed by the former chief justice of India, K. G Balakrishnan. Even today complete information about the wealth of this most corrupted chief justice of India is not known to the public. Why? Is it beyond the Right to Information Act? Similar loopholes are likely to be there in the Lokpal bill also. It is sure that as time passes some illegal and illogical rule will come whereby the citizens cannot use this bill against the Prime Minister, Chief justice and so on thus restric ting its use. The new committee formed to frame the bill must take in the interest of all sections of the population. It should be taken care that the bill will be unbiased and does not favour any person; be it the president or prime minister. Further it should be accompanied by other reformation, yes, reformation from the grass root level. Recently when assembly elections were held in Kerala, crores of rupees were spent by each candidate of the 140 constituencies for campaigning. Where did this money come from? If it is the contribution made by big industrialists and so on, then those candidates when elected should serve their interests. In Tamil Nadu, people are given free T. Vs and laptops. Where did this money come from? All these are different manifestations of corruption. A very effective way to end corruption is to reduce the money power in elections. Crores of rupees are deposited as black money by many influential people abroad. This unaccounted money should be brought back and if it is done, this black money alone can provide the necessary funds required for the construction of metros in a ll the states of India. These reformations if enforced can provide that extra impetus needed to curb corruption along with the Lokpal bill. The Lokpal bill is cent percent legitimate and it upholds the spirit of the constitution because its main aim is to create a corruption- free India. If by any chance it is against any article of the constitution, it is better to amend the constitution rather than the bill because of its most noble cause. The 2G spectrum case, Adharsh Bhavan Colony, commonwealth games are the different issues which we have been hearing in the last few months which has made India a laughing stock in the comity of nations. Let us use the Jan Lokpal bill wisely, sealing its loopholes and see the ultimate result. Let us hope for the best.
